This was one of the questions asked in the 21-Day Journaling Challenge in November 2011 and I share with you here my answer on this question.
When I was younger, happiness was different. Bright lights, loud music, parties, dancing, everything that shine and glitter. I look for happiness everywhere — in shopping malls, cinemas, discos, clubs, etc — but I couldn’t find anything that was lasting or even meaningful.
Now, much older, I hope wiser,
happiness is much different. The list is endless and it’s in the simple things that doesn’t cost anything sometimes:
- Waking up each day
- Being alive
- Being healthy
- That there is peace
- Spending time with family/friends and just having real conversation with each other
- Making somebody happy
- A smile
- Cooking (but not the cleaning up). I love eating Italian, Egyptian and Japanese food.
- Going for walks in nature
- Seeing a flower. Smelling the scent of the flowers can make me high
- Listening to the leaves rustling in the breeze
- Listening to the birds chirping
- Feeling the breeze blowing on my face
- Quietness and calmness -- gee, this makes me sound real old! lol
- Listening to music
- Singing to my favorite tune
- Walking on the beach, alone or hand in hand with a loved one!
I make myself happy. I don't need anybody's permission to be happy. I don’t have to look for it anywhere or depend on anybody or anything to make me happy. It's inside me all the time and nobody can take it away.
Read my ABCs of happiness.
So, what makes you happy?
By the way, Personal Excellence will be organizing a 21-day Positivity Challenge commencing on 1st March. Anybody interested can sign up and leave your name here. It's free! Go for the fun of it and to discover yourself.
Your list in itself is calming. And it all boils down to the fact that happiness truly comes from within. And yes, you are wiser indeed! :-)
ReplyDeleteFor me its got more to do with my mental state than doing a particular thing(s). Yes, if it's about rejuvenating mind then there are certain things that I would surely do. You have good bit of list here. They would most definitely bring peace and serenity.
ReplyDeleteHave a happy day! :)
Love your list Asni! Fresh and Inspiring. Yes happiness takes different forms depending on your age and state of mind.
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me happy, the smell of the rain, being with loved ones, sending a card, witnessing the sunrise, a tea and a god book, talking with my husband, cooking something new, see the house all neat and fresh after a morning of cleaning!
